States average one public college or university per 420,000 people. Florida has one per 1.4 million. With my sponsorship, a bill was passed into law in 1991 which establishes a new university in Southwest Florida, to be open in 1996. This will provide opportunities for our youth to reach their full potential as well as opportunities for our area to become competitive with other regions of the country in attracting new industries. This is a very exciting time for all of us in Southwest Florida.
